Here is a course outline:
Design of the Course
Course 20336A: Core Solutions of Microsoft Lync Server 2013 was designed to be a partner to course to 20337A: Enterprise Voice and Online Services with Microsoft Lync Server 2013. Together these two courses provide extensive training on planning, design, deployment and configuration of a Lync 2013 solution.
Course 20336A module 1 is an introduction to Lync 2013 and its capabilities. The goal of this module is to provide a high-level perspective of Lync 2013 as a solution. This module should help students of differing backgrounds come together on a common appreciation for Lync 2013 capabilities.
Module 2 is a robust module where, in the lab, students get the opportunity to deploy Lync 2013. The VMs to be used in this module lab all end in -02. These VMs are only used in module 2. Module 3 through the remainder of the course will utilize VMs that end in -03. These VMs include the completed steps from the module 2 lab. The -02 and -03 VMs can never be running at the same time on the same machines as they have specific domain controllers that each set of VMs connects to.
You will notice each module lab includes rather extensive and specific instructions for starting the VMs. We have tested the labs in both sequence and independent of each other. We have found you can perform the labs in sequence (module 3 through 12) without shutting down VMs. Therefore you may find it efficient to leave VMs running between module labs and simply start the additional VMs as necessary through the course.
Module 12 is focused on migration to Lync 2013 and was placed at the end of the course for two reasons. First, students need the education provided in the earlier modules to appreciate the implications of migration. Second, it was done to provide instructors with some flexibility in the course timing. The lab for this module is paper-based so students can do that part offline after the course if necessary.

Student Q&A
Q - Can I move the CMS database
A - Yes, but use caution.

Q - How does Lync/SfB compare to Cisco CallManager?
A - Microsoft offers an opinion

To add whole room functionality (comparable to CISCO or Polycom) you could also consider a Smart Room System

Q - what is a stretched pool? Is it a Metropolitan pool like Lync 2010?
A - yes and no
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj205007(v=ocs.15).aspx
"The disaster recovery solution for Persistent Chat Server is built on a stretched Persistent Chat Server pool. This is similar to metropolitan site resiliency in Lync Server 2010; however, there is no requirement for a stretched virtual local area network (VLAN). "
Q - can I virtualize Lync?
A - yes. Here is a white paper listing recommendations
Q - what is the difference between XMPP and XCCOS?
XMPP can be compared to SIP. Can transport IM and A/V
http://rtcquickstart.org/guide/multi/intro-sip-or-xmpp.html
Whereas XCCOS is encapsulated in SIP for Lync and used just for Persistant Chat IM and files
